A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of capturing three generations of the Lovell family. We had mother and father, two grown up sons & their partners, and two teenage boys. They didn't all get together often, so we booked their session well in advance to coincide with everyone meeting up in Chichester.
One of the elder sons purchased the session for his mum's birthday, which was a wonderful idea and made the family photo shoot even more special. They told me they all loved nature and the outdoors, so we picked the perfect spot near Goodwood with a mix of woodland trees and meadows, and easy parking for everyone to arrive in their separate cars.
I was so happy that they were keen to go ahead with a sunset shoot, to capture the stunning summer's evening light in the beauty of the West Sussex countryside.
We started by taking some big group photos, which gave everyone a chance to get warmed up together while capturing the occasion of the whole family in one place. Then we moved on to some smaller groups, photographing the first generation of the family with mother & father, and the two sons. They only needed very subtle direction for their connection to naturally come to the surface, and everything flowed easily from there.
Next we captured some beautiful photos of the grandparents with their grandkids. The two younger brothers of the family warmed up to the camera quickly, and the younger of the two boys brought so much joy and energy to the session, which made for lots of effortless smiles and laughter.
Following this, we captured some family portraits of the boys and their parents. They didn't live in Chichester and had never been to this location before, so were happy to explore and wander through the meadow as I captured them together, in the beautiful West Sussex countryside.
We then took some couple photos of the older sons and their partners, who were both equally great in front of the camera, warming up quickly and letting their playful connections shine through.
Next we captured family photos of all the boys, all the girls, and some gorgeous individual and couple portraits. And we couldn't resist a bit more brotherly love to finish things off, this time from the older brothers!
